Something you keep working around. It takes about ten minutes, and you do not need a solution in mind. The problem is the contribution.

What makes a good problem

  • You have seen it yourself, repeatedly, rather than read about it.
  • You can describe what currently happens and the exact point where it fails.
  • It affects a definable group of people, at a frequency you can estimate.
  • A meaningful improvement would not require changing how an entire health system operates.
  • You are willing to answer a student team's questions over the course of a year.

Before you write: no patient-identifiable information.

Do not include patient-identifiable information: no names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, addresses, or anything else that could identify a specific person. Describe the problem in general terms.
